Baby Shower

On Saturday, March 13th, at 12 noon, there was a major event going on at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium....Baby Fisch's Baby Shower!!!!!! Amy, Jess, Brandi as well as The Grammas helped to throw the most amazing party in baby shower history!!!! Everybody who was anybody was there...old neighbors and friends, family from across the country, even my friend Mike-a keeper who helped teach me how to be the awesome animal trainer that i am today-stopped by too! (Well, he IS married to Amy and he's not one to pass up free dessert). As The Belly and I (yes, I refer to it as it's own separate entity now) entered the room, Jess was quick to whisk me away for an important matter...my Aunt Jan came all the way in from FLORIDA to surprise me!!! I cried like a baby. Serious sobbing. I didn't even cry that hard when Josh asked me to marry him! Maybe it had something to do with the hormones, but it was going to be hard to top that moment as surprise of the century! Apparently, my Aunt Gretchen spilled the beans right in front of me at dinner the night before, but luckily I was busy stuffing my face with a fish sandwich and didn't even hear the slip-up. The jungle theme was everywhere. Brandi handmade about 50 diaper cakes as centerpieces (well, maybe more like 10, but still it was impressive!). Baby Fisch will be able to pee away to their heart's content because we now are 200 diapers richer! They also added baby pictures of Josh and I scattered around the room! Amy had a brilliant idea to hang a clothesline on a wall to hang up the outfits that we received...sooooo cute!!! Baby Fisch has a headstart in a library too. Each guest was asked to bring along one of their favorite books. I loved to read when I was little and I hope the baby will enjoy it too. I've been taking lots of DHA for brain and eye development. That paired with books, the baby should be able to read to themselves by age 2 I figure. :)
We had a delicious lunch of assorted salads and sandwiches while the guests filled out their Baby Fisch Present Bingo cards. As guests won at bingo, they got tickets that they could enter in the contest to win fancy baskets created by our lovely hostesses! After lunch, Grandpa Gary (God bless his little heart) took the kids out into the Zoo to burn off some energy while we did 'shower things'. We didn't hear any distress calls and no one ended up in the tiger pool so overall he did a great job!! He may look and sound like a grizzly bear, but Gary is a big ol' softie when it comes to kids.
The presents...oh the PRESENTS! Our kid better not end up being a jerk, because people are already so in love with this baby! It was amazing! We got just about everything we could possibly need! Thank goodness there were so many moms there because there were quite a few things that I put on the 'happy face' for and had no idea what they were! I had to ask a lot of questions! "This is GREAT!!!! What is it?" Amy was a great interpreter :)
This just in...i'm watching A Baby Story while trying to write this blog AND finish our thank you cards and I just saw a brand new baby boy being born...that poor thing's scrotum is almost as big as his head!!! I heard they swelled in utero, but holy crap that's a little bit ridiculous!
Anyhow, we received so many amazing gifts...practical, sentimental, surprises, everything! Gramma Fischer, my friends Sarah and Betsy each made a blanket for Baby Fisch...gorgeous! Aunt Gretchen refinished a wooden high chair that her dad had made years ago. What an heirloom! And of course, Aunt Jan didn't disappoint with her 'bonus bags' filled with baby goodies!
Finally, the CAKE! A Lois Mathews original...it was truly outstanding! Half chocolate, half white with homemade buttercream frosting. Plus a monkey drawn by hand by Gramma Dee Dee herself!!! No Lois Baby Shower cake is complete without a sleeping baby under a blanket either. The nurse at our last child birth class scared me by saying that too much sugar can not only cause gestational diabetes but high birth weight babies! Needless to say, I felt that it was worth the risk and consumed plenty of cake and cookies that weekend.
